What
is SLACKEL 1.0:
It is a collection of GNU / Linux software
running entirely from CD and is based on Slackware Linux. It is
not necessary to install anything on the local disk. Using
transparent compression, they were able to fit on the 2400 MB
executable software CD.
It loads the whole system even the
kernel from modules. So users can add to change to create other
modules and extend Slackel.
SLACKEL
1.0 was created from a Slackware Linux 10.2 system,
installed on
the hard disk, with the linux-live-5.1.8 scripts by
Tomas
Matejicek <http://slax.linux-live.org>, which were
modified
and added new scripts for creating
system tools and for
supporting Greek locale and
different system
startup. New
slackware packages were also created from
source code that were not contained in the regular
Slackware
distribution. In any case, the rule of
ease, simplicity and
stability that characterizes Slackware was followed.
So Slackel
is fully compatible with Slackware, that is, someone
can install
any slackware package.
Automatically recognizes and
supports multiple graphics and sound cards,
SCSI, USB, and other
peripherals. (BC Automatic
recognition and attachment of
memory sticks)
What's
on this CD:
In addition to the GNU / Linux Slackware
distribution programs, there are
also:
The
Unification File System (also known as unionfs) which is the
most
important part of Slackel. It allows Slackel to behave
and
function like a real Linux OS, with full ability to
write and
store directories and files in its tree structure.
In other
words, anyone who works with Slackel without knowing it
is a
Live CD will think that a Linux distribution installed
on the
hard drive is working.

recognition and attachment of memory sticks. When you
insert
your memory stick usb its
icon will appear on
the desktop. Click on it to open it with konqueror.
Do
not forget to right-click to select "safe removal". Once
you
remove it the icon will disappear.
By
executing the command, as root, setinet, on an xterm, the
slackel
becomes a dhcp server with iptables and Masquerate. So all the
pcs
connected to it get dynamic ip addresses. If you
connect
your modem with kppp on the internet all the PCs in
your network are also
connected to the internet
And
many more that you will discover while working.
Slackel is also
made for the novice user who needs to
surf the internet, have
office applications, be able to write
data and audio CDs / DVDs,
edit audio, view or
edit images and graphics, play games ,
to
watch dvd video, locally or via the internet, to chat in
writing or
even with others on the internet, to listen to live
radio on the
internet. (BC Connect with firefox at
http://www.tetradio.gr
and from the option on the right "radio"
select the station of
your choice ).
But
also for the advanced. Many of the Slackel packages were made
by
slackel in operation by compiling the source code and
converting
it to slackware packages. The advanced user can
compile or
install any package he wants.
When
Slackel starts in an administrator (root) environment it can
be
installed on the hard disk. Slackel was installed
many
times successfully, by the writer from the live cd to the
hard disk
using commands, because there is complete control and
thus the
case of data loss is zeroed .
The second
method was not used with the installer, so I
do not know
if it works.
You
can also install Slackel on your hard drive. In
this case
there are instructions on the live cd. But you do it
at
your own risk. The writer bears no
responsibility for possible
data loss or anything else
that happens.
You
can see snapshots of SLACKEL

Finally,
I would like to thank the webmasters of www.ellak.gr for
the
immediate and positive response to the request to host the
iso image of
Slackel on the server of ellak.gr
