Mate exists on Slackel repos over 6 months, maybe more. I had compiled all needed packages of mate 1.22 edition for x86 and x86_64.
I had created a 64 bit live iso and tested and solved any issues and became a ready to install iso.
But I did not find the time to create a 32 bit live iso. So i never make it public.
If anyone likes mate and wants to have it along with openbox can run these simple commands to first see what packages will be installed.
Then proceed to installation.
There are also other two packages
zzz-settings-mate
user-settings-mate
but they suppose to be installed in an only mate installation e.g. used for the live iso
From gdm login screen choose mate.
