Re: Openbox 7.6 live X11 init failed
I meant that I (physically) unpacked the old i3 desktop box, and plugged it to a screen, network, keyboard and mouse. :) You are correct about xf86-video-ati. Probably I missed it in the listing. I did the following: sudo slapt-get i xf86-video-ati then startx but the error persisted. Then I run ...

Re: Openbox 7.6 live X11 init failed
I unpacked the old i3 desktop and I tried your suggestions. Using slapt-get --search xf86-video- the video driver xf86-video-amdgpu is already installed [inst=yes]. No driver found with the name xf86-video-ati. startx from a terminal gives the following errors: [EE]Fatal server error: [EE] no ...

Re: Openbox 7.6 live X11 init failed
Yes. I try it as soon as possible when I unpack it from storage again and connect it to the peripherals. The video card is an ATI (AMD) Radeon Sapphire (I don't remember the exact model). Yes, I didn't do it on a laptop but on another desktop with i5 hashwell (~2014) and built in Intel ...

Re: Unbound brightness up and down keys
By the way did you tried to boot with a live iso from ubuntu to see if there keys are working? After waiting for ages the current ubuntu desktop (22.04 LTS) live iso to boot, I found that neither this detects and responds to the hp screen brightness up & down combinations (fn+f4, fn+f3). Only the ...

Re: Unbound brightness up and down keys
Thanks. I applied the first advice. Nothing changed. I updated the kernel to 5.18.3 (x86_64). Nothing changed. I couldn't apply the second advice, because the fn+f11 is already reserved (audio volume increase) and the fn+f3, fn+f4 key combinations cannot be detected either by obkey or by xev. I ...

Re: Unbound brightness up and down keys
Apart from removing the xbacklight package, I had already done these, following your advice in the previous post. Both the xbacklight command and the PowerKit brightness slider are effective. The only problem is that the XF86MonBrightness[Down|Up] keys although they're enabled in obkey seem to be ...

Re: Unbound brightness up and down keys
The arrows (up, down, right, left) keys has no action here also in lenovo g510 intel i3. Actually I was not talking about the up/down keys but about the XF86MonBrightnessUp and XF86MonBrightnessDown keys, but I was too lazy to write the full name. Concerning the BIOS settings, they're very ...

Re: Unbound brightness up and down keys
Thanks, I've already seen that and helped my to install acpilight. My current problem is no more the powerkit brightness slider, or the xbacklight command. It is that the up/down keys seem to relate to no actual key combinations from the keyboard. I don't know if it actually a BIOS problem, I'll try ...
